AMHERST --ÊRuby Maria Dayton (nee Bechtel), 101,
of Amherst, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Amherst Manor Nursing Home, following a lengthy
illness.
She was born Feb. 5, 1899, in Elyria. She moved to Pittsfield Township in 1921 and
lived there for 33 years, until moving to Amherst in 1972.
Mrs. Dayton was a member of the Family Fellowship Foursquare Gospel Church, Amherst,
where she was president of the United Foursquare Women and was a deaconess of the church.
She was also a member of the Farm Bureau Council and enjoyed gardening and quilting.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn Christian of Amherst; four grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Howard in
1971; brother, Nelson W. Bechtel in 1953; and parents, Frank and Rhoda (nee Kolb) Bechtel.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373
Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Family Fellowship
Foursquare Gospel Church. The Rev. Myrtle Eppler, minister to seniors, will officiate.
Burial will be in North Murray Ridge Cemetery, Elyria.
