WELL-KNOWN AMHERST MAN DIES

Anton Dute, aged resident of Amherst and well known business man and Church worker
throughout the county, died at his home on Elyria Aveune Sunday morning at 12:15, after
being in ill health for about two years. Mr. Dute suffered a stroke of paralysis on Sunday
July 31, which resulted in his
death. Mr. Dute was 63 years of age and has lived in Amherst all of his life. He was born
on a farm about one mile north of Amherst, where he spent his boyhood days. He later moved
to Amherst with his parents, where he became very active in Community work. He was
connected with the dry goods business for about 40 years in Elyria and Lorain. Twenty
years of this period was spent with the John Lersch company of Elyrai and remainder with
the Lorain Mercantile company of
Lorain. At one time he was owner of this concern and not until a few years ago did he sell
out his holdings.
He was a member of the stone church for over 45 years and during that time he held every
church office. He was also active in Sunday School work being connected with the Lorain
County Sunday School Association for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Dute; six brothers, Henry, Julius, August and Casper
of Amherst; John and Harvey of Lorain; and four sisters; Mrs. Mratha Lau of Southerland,
Nebraska, Mrs. A.H. Kern of Detroit, Mrs. Anna Krugman of Elyria and Mrs. Nathan Miller of
Wellington.
Funeral services were conducted from the late home at 1:30 and from the Stone Church at 2
O'Clock Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Neumister officiating.
Burial was in Cleveland Street Cemetery.

1921
